Nocturnal Animals Week 1With talks of bats and everything creepy at night, we thought we would take the opportunity to talk and learn about Nocturnal Animals. Group TimeWe had a group discussion using the pocket chart sorting activity about animals that came out during the night and animals that are out during the day. We introduced the letter N for Night and Nocturnal. Work Time (Learning Centers)The children were scientist with a fizzy color mixing station. Children experimented with red and yellow and discovered that it makes orange. Children created art by dipping pumpkins in paint and then rolling them down the ramps and onto the paper. As they were playing they discovered the difference between rolling and sliding. Small Group ActivitiesThis week children worked on beginning sounds N for night and D for Day. Children counted bats with Going Batty counting mats. Making owl patterns. Nocturnal Week 1Here's what we worked on... Things From TreesI have been drooling over other peoples nature tables and this year is the year that I am going to take the plunge and introducing them to my learning environment. I love bringing nature into the learning environment rocks, driftwood, and sticks in the block center and tree bisques in the home living center, so I don't know why I have not created a nature table yet. When the children started noticing items falling from all of the trees in the outdoor play area and bringing them to us to show us their treasures that they had found, I thought... This is it This is what I needed to jump start me on our nature table adventure. I was able to find all of the containers for our nature table at the $1.00 section in target. I just love that little corner of target don't you? I had planned on posting this post a few weeks ago and never got around to it, So... I thought since our nature table has changed since then I would include our new nature table as well. I think they have been enjoying the $1.00 jars as well. I have jars of these now on the nature table. There words "Ms. Tami look we have wheat to make bread with. One of the ladies that works with me has the most amazing green thump and she was able to bring in items from her garden for our pumpkin and gourd table. At work time children cut open pumpkins and butternut squash to predict and discover the differences. As we were exploring we thought it to be a good ideas to see if one would grow. I wish I would not of waited so long to start a nature table in the classroom. The children have enjoyed learning about the different things that nature has provided.
Super Friend WeekThis month we have been working on how to Make Friends. We used the Little Red Hen to show children how it is nice to help our friends. Then we finished off with what makes a Super Friend. Group TimeWe enjoyed a puppet show where some of our friends acted out The Little Red Hen using their puppets that they created from the week before. Children sorted cards showing what makes a super buddy and what is not. Work Time (Learning Centers)Children laced, glued and created their on personalized super capes. Lets not forget our super masks. The art center was humming with activity as they created super friend scenes. POW... We now have some super art. Children discovered that magnetics have a positive and negative side to them. Using that knowledge they found out that they could push their super friends and have super friend flying races. Small Group Activities![]() Children continued to work on shapes with these Super Friend shape soring mats. Super Friend ParadeWe finished our week off with a Super Friend parade. Children made their own musical instruments as a family project and they wore their super friend capes and masks that they made during worktime. Super Friend WeekWe took our parade to the neighborhood where parents and neighbors came out to cheers us on. Here's what we worked on...
