Young children need to be provided with many different and fun ways to explore the world of writing. As children acquire the written world it is important for us to give them many opportunities through out the day to express ideas and create drawings. When you give them experiences like glow writing and slime write you will see that your instructional writing time is paying off. Glow WritingThis is always one of our classroom favorites we turn our light table center into a glow writing table. If you have children that avoid the writing table this one will definitely draw them in. Here is what you will need to get a glow table up and running.
Find an area in your room that can accommodate a large appliance box if you do not have a loft. This way you can curtain off the box so over head light is at a minimum. Attach the lights to the top of the box with double stick tape. Have children use clipboards for writing on. Slime WritingWhen we return from winter break we always change out all of the markers through out the classroom and place all of the old markers with a fresh batch of snow white slime for the slime writing table. This table is a yearly hit.
What are some of your favorite ways to spice up the writing process in your classroom? It has been a while since I have done a peek at my week. I was missing in action there for awhile due to life happening in the month of December, so the pictures might be light since my classroom took the back burner to this. What was suppose to be a one day thing turned turned into a two week thing and more with travel. You send them to college and think all is good and then... You get a call saying hey mom I need to go in for a little surgery should only take a day. Can you be here? Ahh Yeah! Dropped everything I mean everything and left so that I could be there. Peek at my Week 1 WinterMy classroom and one other have been back for one week but the rest of the district first day back after winter break is Monday, so our curriculum didn't start until then.
